GreenTech’s founders are angel investors at Okeanos Technologies. Okeanos develops a next-generation, ultra-efficient desalination microtechnology to address our planet’s chronic and increasingly alarming fresh water shortages. This desalination microtechnology, known as WaterChipTM, represents a “solid-state” alternative to present-day approaches for creating fresh water from seawater and brackish aquifer sources.
The Okeanos WaterChip™ is a solid-state, Massively Paralleled Desalination platform that uses a newly characterized, patent-pending microscale process called Electrochemically Mediated Desalination to desalinate with radical energy-efficiency. The WaterChip™ desalinates millionths of a liter at a time—that is, “microdesalinates”—using tiny microstructures, which are then massively paralleled to produce useful water flows. Desalination in tiny volumes allows to use a form of energy that simply cannot be generated in “macroscale,” therefore performing with much lower energy costs than other desalinization methods.
